Weekly Reflection - Submission Date

Weekly Reflection Submission Date

Recall that five times over the course of the semester, you must submit a Weekly Reflection. Weekly Reflections will be turned in through a TurnItIn link on the course Blackboard site (which we use only to turn in assignments and so that you can review your grades).

You are not required to submit a Weekly Reflection today, but this is an eligible submission date, if you choose. Note that if you don’t want to have to submit a weekly reflection and an assignment in the same week, then you need to submit your second weekly reflection by today.

Instructions

Recall from the syllabus:

Five times over the course of the semester you will submit a “Weekly Reflection piece”.  Your reflection should be a full page in standard double-spaced formatted text that thinks through in your own words something from class or the readings for that week.  Your reflection may take one of various forms.  It may, for example, be a puzzle, an objection, or an application.  In a puzzle reflection, you would write about something that you feel like you don’t understand, and try to say what you find so difficult to understand about it.  In an objection reflection, you would try to say clearly in half of a page what you take some view that we have encountered in class or the readings to be, and what you take to be its motivations, and then in the second half of the page you would try to pose an objection to it.  In an application reflection, you would try to take an idea from class and apply it to something from outside of class – one of your experiences, or a piece of literature or a film, or to current events.  There are other possible formats for a reflection, but these are three good options.  Put a title on your reflection each week that indicates what category it belongs to.

That’s it! Those are the instructions. If you have questions, ask! Otherwise, give it a try, see what you can learn from the feedback that you get, and then do better on the next four.

Deadlines

Weekly Reflections must always be submitted before midnight on Sundays. You can submit at most one each week, and you must have submitted one by this week, at least three by Sunday, March 24th, and all five by Sunday, April 14th.

Let me spell out what follows from these rules, to make sure there are absolutely no mistakes: this means that the latest date to submit your second weekly reflection is Sunday, March 17th, and that the latest date to submit your fourth weekly reflection is Sunday, April 7th. But these are all last possible deadlines - you can submit in the first five eligible weeks and be done for the semester, which would be absolutely great, in my book.
