Class 15: Polarization
We close the semester with the closing chapters of When Things Get Personal, turning to the question of how the three-body problem complicates interpersonal interpretation, with applications for understanding political polarization. And we’ll think a little bit about whether and if so, why, the concept of discord might be therapeutic.
The main assigned reading for today’s class is chapters 11-13 of When Things Get Personal.
As always, I have suggested background readings and some also recommended readings for thinking more about related things. But for this week I haven’t decided yet what those should be.
